The public is invited to take part in the Back to School Pow Wow organized by Northlands College.
The event at the JRMCC in La Ronge begins Thursday morning at 11 a.m.
The college’s Coordinator of Community and Cultural Engagement, Jordyn Burnouf, says music will be a big part of the gathering.
“We’ll go through and kind of introduce all of the different dances, so people can have a better idea of the origin and history behind each dance,” said Burnouf.
There will also be some speakers, including the FSIN youth representative, who will talk with students about leadership and education.
Burnouf says anyone interested in taking part in the music or dance can get in touch with her, as they are working to create a network for northerners.
“It doesn’t have to be just pow wow dancing, but any kind of cultural song or dance,” she said.
The event includes a free barbecue and begins Thursday at 11 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m.
Buses will be running from the college to the JRMCC for students who would like to take part.
