The La Ronge Ice Wolves slipped to 0-4 on the season following an 8-0 loss on Monday afternoon in Warman to the Weyburn Red Wings.
A slow start once again proved to be costly for the Ice Wolves, who trailed 2-0 before the game was even seven minutes old.
“Pretty much a butt-kicking right from puck drop through to the end of the game,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen. “Obviously, a little reality check for everybody here that we got to be better.”
Ben Hiltz, Cade Kowalski and Carson Scheschuk all had two goals for the Wings, while Sean Olson and Dylan McCabe added singles. Cody Levesque only had to make 19 saves for his first SJHL shutout.
It was the first time the Ice Wolves have been shutout this season. Chad Duran got the start for La Ronge and allowed eight goals on 24 shots. Jordan Frey came into the game early in the third and stopped all five shots he faced during his relief appearance.
The Ice Wolves will look to rebound on Friday at home when the Melfort Mustangs make their way to the Mel Hegland Uniplex for the first time this season. Friday’s game gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
The Ice Wolves will then take Saturday off before hosting the Melville Millionaires on Sunday evening.
