Rescuers and survivors of the plane crash in Fond-du-Lac this past December were honoured yesterday at the Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) annual assembly.

One person was killed and nine people were seriously injured as a result of the West Wind Aviation ATR 42 that crashed shortly after taking off from the northern community’s airport on Dec. 13.

“Leaders of the Prince Albert Grand Council understand what the community has gone through this past year,” Chief Louis Mercredi of the Fond-du-Lac Dene Nation says. “We are still physically and mentally scarred by this crash.”

22 passengers and three crew members were on the plane.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Mercredi says these type of ceremonies are helping the community heal.

The Prince Albert Grand Council annual assembly is taking place at the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre and finishes today.
