The La Ronge Ice Wolves lost 9-6 in North Battleford on Friday night, which was their fourth straight setback.
The Ice Wolves took a few undisciplined penalties throughout the game, which proved to be costly, as the North Stars tallied three times on the man advantage on four chances.
Mitch Zambon, Jake Gudjonson, Antonio Di Paolo, Zach Bannister, Kolby Johnson and Max Kleiner did the scoring for La Ronge. Chad Duran got the start in net for the Wolves, but he was replaced by Jordan Frey after allowing six goals on 25 shots. Frey allowed three goals on 22 shots in his relief appearance.
Ryan Gil and Elijah Loon-Stewardson both scored twice for the North Stars, while Brett Gammer, Matthias Urbanski, Regan Doig, Owen Lamb and Kaden Boser added singles. Jake Davidson picked up the win in net. He ended the night with 20 saves.
With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 4-10 on the season, which has them sitting in 11th in the overall standings right now. La Ronge will look to rebound on Saturday in Kindersley when they meet the Klippers for the first time this season. You can catch Saturday’s game on MBC, the pre-game show starts at 7:15 p.m. with Braden Malsbury.
Meantime, Ice Wolves goalie Merek Pipes has committed to Union College (NCAA Division 1) for the 2019-20 season.
“I started talking to them about two years ago and I went and I toured their campus, and I talked to their coaches,” said Merek Pipes. “I loved it, I loved every bit of it. I loved the campus, the feel around the campus.”
Pipes, who turns 20 in November, joined the Ice Wolves last season after spending time with the Yorkton Terriers and the Nipawin Hawks.
Pipes plans to take engineering at Union College, which is located in Schenectady, New York.
