The La Ronge Ice Wolves are getting set for a home-and-home series this weekend with the Melfort Mustangs.
The set begins on Friday night in Melfort at Northern Lights Palace. The Ice Wolves will have some momentum following a 3-1 victory on Sunday at home against the Melville Millionaires.
“Obviously, winning a hockey game is a big thing, kind of get that monkey off of our back,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen.
“Getting the win was a big boost for us and I thought even on Friday night, the way we played against Melfort, we played real solid for about 55 minutes there. I think if we bring that same effort and same work ethic, and play for 60 minutes, we can have a different outcome.”
The Ice Wolves enter the weekend with a 1-5 record, which has them in last in the overall standings. The Mustangs are 4-2-1-0, which has them occupying seventh right now. These two teams hooked up last Friday in La Ronge, with the Mustangs prevailing 7-4.
The Ice Wolves have lost 14 straight regular season games to Melfort. The last time La Ronge beat Melfort was Dec. 9, 2015 at Northern Lights Palace. The Ice Wolves took that contest 3-2 in overtime.
“They (Melfort) can score goals,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen. “I think they have real good team speed, so for us, it’s kind of neutralizing that and not letting them play to their strengths.”
Friday’s game in Melfort gets underway at 7:30 p.m. You can catch the action live on MBC, the pre-game show starts at 7:15 p.m. with Braden Malsbury.
Following Friday’s tilt, the Ice Wolves host the Mustangs on Saturday evening at the Mel Hegland Uniplex. Saturday’s game gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
