Children have a few additional places to play outside on the Cowessess First Nation after two new playground structures were installed in the community.

One of the structures has been built in the First Nation’s upper subdivision at Grand View Heights and the other is placed in the lower subdivision at the Cowessess Community Educational Centre.

Cowessess Recreation Coordinator Jason Bobb has been working on the project since August and says the playground structures are very important for the community.

“It’s an atmosphere and environment for kids to have fun and be safe,” he says. “Everyone wins from that. Giving them the playgrounds just keeps kids being kids.”

Bobb says each structure costs approximately $20,000.

The playgrounds are being winterized so they will be accessible all year round.

Bobb says no specific arrangements have been made to name them and it is something the community will eventually decide.

Five community picnic tables have also been placed around the park areas.
