The Chief of the Cowessess First Nation says its membership voted overwhelmingly in favour to use $2.6 million to purchase land in Regina and Yorkton.

The vote was to approve the transfer of money from the Food Claim Trust to the Treaty Land Entitlement.

The property in Regina at 1246 Albert Street is to be used for a fast food establishment and or office space.

The 19 acres of land in Yorkton will see the development of a gas station and grocery store, with a 10,000 square foot office building and multi-family housing.

The land title transfer is expected to be completed by December, yet designating the land as reserve status may take many more months.
