The La Ronge Ice Wolves were busy on Wednesday, making a handful of roster transactions.
The Ice Wolves have traded 20-year-old defenceman Matt Krawiec to the Red Lake Miners (SIJHL) in exchange for 18-year-old forward Bailey Hartman and a player development fee. Hartman is from Grande Prairie, AB and had five points in 12 games with Red Lake this season. Krawiec, a Red Deer, AB product, had one point in 24 games with La Ronge after coming over in a trade early in the season with the Winkler Flyers (MJHL).
The Ice Wolves also announced they have signed 18-year-old forward Stewart Pond from San, Diego, CA. Pond started the season with the Lloydminster Bobcats in the AJHL. He was pointless in 15 games with the Bobcats. Pond will make his La Ronge debut tonight against Estevan.
“Brought him (Pond) in and got a good look at him this week, really like what he brings,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen. “He’s a big body, he’s about 6’1″ — 195 lbs., skates real well. Looking for him to bring a little bit of that speed and physicality that he’s shown at previous levels to our lineup.”
La Ronge also added 18-year-old forward Flynn Perry from Inuvik, NT. Perry began the season with the Swan Valley Stampeders in the MJHL. Through 12 games, Perry had one goal and no assists.
The Ice Wolves are back in action Wednesday night when they host the Estevan Bruins for the final time in the regular season. The Ice Wolves have a chance to win the season series, as they lead the set 2-1.
Forwards Nolan Doell and Holden Knights will draw into the lineup for the Ice Wolves. Both play for the Beardy’s Blackhawks in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. In 21 games with the Blackhawks, Doell has 32 points. Knights has recorded 29 points in 18 games.
Meantime, tonight’s matchup versus the Bruins begins at 7:30 p.m. from the Mel Hegland Uniplex. The Ice Wolves will be looking to end an 11-game losing streak. Admission tonight is only $2.
