One of Saskatchewan’s most successful Indigenous entrepreneurs has written a new book.

Kendal Netmaker is the owner and operator of the highly successful active wear clothing line Neechie Gear.

He says he decided to write the book, Driven to Succeed: From Poverty to Podium, for a couple of reasons.

“The reason I wanted to write this book is because I wrote down on a piece of paper that by the time I turned 30, I was going to write a book,” he says. “So that was the first reason. The second reason I wanted to write this book is because I wanted to create something to inspire other people to take them from where they are right now to anywhere they want to go in their life.”

The 31-year-old Sweetgrasss First Nation member tells his own story in one part of the book and then outlines a path to success in the other.

Some of his steps to success include making a simple choice, using the power of your story and elevating your circle of influence.

“Most people have something within them that they feel they should be doing whether it’s a career, whether it’s a passion, but only that person knows,” Netmaker says. “So, the first step is how to know that decision, if it’s right for you. So, I share with people the decision you need to make, it has to be an obsessive feeling. It’s like that’s the only way you’re going to know if you like something.”

Neechie Gear is based out of Saskatoon.
