For the 14th straight time, the La Ronge Ice Wolves failed to win a hockey game — this time it was a 4-2 setback on home ice Tuesday to the Kindersley Klippers.
“Probably tonight was the fastest we’ve played all year up and down the ice — both ways,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen.
“We moved the puck well and created some chances because of it — happy with that. At the end of the day, giving up a shorthanded goal and a power play goal, and a couple even strength ones are still things that, obviously we have work to do.”
It was a rough first period for the Ice Wolves, who were outshot 18-8. Daniel Davidson held the fort down for La Ronge, making several key saves. The Klippers scored the only goal of the frame when Kyle Bosch sniped shorthanded.
The Ice Wolves looked like an inspired hockey club in the second period. Jake Gudjonson and Steph Perreault would both tally on the power play, as the Ice Wolves jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the middle stanza. Late in the second, Cam Shorrock would redirect an offering from the point past Davidson, which tied the game at two.
Austin Nault and Damon McKenzie would both tally fairly early in the third, as the Klippers would hang on and record their fourth straight win. Daniel Davidson finished the evening with 50 saves in the loss, while Justen Close made 25 stops for the win.
With the loss, La Ronge slipped to 6-25 on the season, which has them in last in the overall standings. The Ice Wolves will be looking to rebound Thursday in Pinehouse when they host the Battlefords North Stars in a neutral-site affair. Thursday’s game gets underway at 7:30 p.m., you can catch it live on MBC Network Radio with Braden Malsbury.
