The La Ronge Ice Wolves are getting set for their last two games before the Christmas break.
The Ice Wolves will host the Flin Flon Bombers on Friday night at the Mel Hegland Uniplex, before travelling to Nipawin Saturday for a date with the Hawks.
La Ronge is nine points behind the Melville Millionaires for the final playoff spot. The Ice Wolves sit in last place in the overall standings with their 7-25-1-0 record, but the team is trending upwards after collecting three out of a four possible points in their last two games versus the Battlefords North Stars.
“I think the guys are buying in right now,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen. “We’re going to have to play hard 60-minute hockey here with effort throughout the lineup and everybody contributing. That’s kind of what it’s been the last few games here and obviously, the two over the weekend.”
Goaltending has been sensational for the Ice Wolves as of late. Jordan Frey made 47 saves in 3-2 loss in overtime last Friday to the Battlefords North Stars, while Daniel Davidson is coming off a brilliant 40-save victory last Thursday in Pinehouse against the North Stars.
“Both Jordan and Daniel have played real well, which gives the guys confidence in front of them,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Evan Vossen. “I think we’ve done a real good job of limiting our Grade-A scoring opportunities and keeping things to the outside, so that obviously helps them as well too.”
Friday’s tilt marks the fifth meeting of the season between the Ice Wolves and the Bombers. Flin Flon has won all previous four games. La Ronge should be a motivated club after dropping the last contest 9-2 back at home on Nov. 10.
Friday’s game versus the Flin Flon Bombers begins at 7:30 p.m. If you bring a non-perishable food item, stuffed animal, mitts or a toque, you will get into the game for free.
Saturday’s battle from Nipawin will begin at 7:30 p.m. You can catch the action on MBC Network Radio with Braden Malsbury, the pre-game show starts at 7:15 p.m.
