Approximately 30 people attended an interactive safety meeting Tuesday night hosted by the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
Attendees were broken down into groups of three and asked to answer a series of questions
The questions were all based on identifying safety problems and creating community-based solutions.
The LLRIB safety committee will now examine the feedback submitted as part of a process of creating short and long term solutions to safety.concerns.
Simon Bird, who hosted the event, says he wants the community to be part of the solution.
One of the reoccurring issues that was brought up was youth not having enough activities to engage them which means they are prone to getting into mischief at night.
Respondents answered parents and family need to play a role in terms of finding workable solutions to this problem.
One of the nine questions was, “what concerns do children express to their parents on a regular basis?”
Answers to this question varied from stray dogs, cars driving too fast and absent parents to substance abuse in the home.
Organizers are looking at hosting a similar event for children and youth to express their community safety concerns.
Mental health was also noted as a top concern amongst attendees.
Angie Clinton, who works in the Lac La Ronge Indian Health Services Department, says she is ready to do whatever it takes to ensure youth have all of the resources they need to tackle mental health issues.
Many participants also suggested the tri-communities work together to tackle these issues.
The safety meeting was held at Kitsakie Hall.
A similar meeting was also held in Hall Lake.
