The Meadow Lake Tribal Council is hosting an event this week for both residential school survivors and those who have experienced the trauma of a loved who has gone missing or been murdered.

The “A Sense of Belonging: Coming Home” workshop is taking place at the Meadow Lake Civic Centre.

Robert Fiddler works in health support services for MLTC.

We’d like to do some closure on these topics because of the emotional and grieving that’s happening with the families,” he says. “We’d like to help them out and do some debrief at the same time.”

Fiddler adds the workshop is all about providing a safe and supportive environment where people can heal.

“A lot of them haven’t addressed the grieving part of it and we wanted to bring it out and see if we can deal with it and hopefully, they’ll be on their way to a healing journey from here on in.”

Guest speakers at the event include Myrna LaPlante, Eugene Arcand and English River First Nation Chief Lawrence McIntyre.

The workshop wraps up on Thursday.
