Members of the 4th Canadian Ranger Patrol Group out of Fond du Lac are heading out onto the land for several days of training.
Warrant Officer Nahekan Ahenakew is one of the people coordinating this year’s exercise and says two days of preparation have been done to get everyone ready for various tasks they will be facing.
Ahenakew says the participants will be faced with a number of tasks to prepare them for potential real-life situations.
“Setting up improvised landing zones for airplanes, improvised helicopter landing zones, wilderness first aid scenarios and making things like splints and stretchers,” he says.
Ahenakew says navigation training covers a large amount of information and in the end, a ranger should be able to find their way around the north without using things like GPS technology.
This year’s exercise will include five days on land north of Fond du Lac.
About 18 members of 4 CRPG are expected to take part.
