RCMP divers have recovered the remains of two people from the bottom of Peter Pond Lake.

The Underwater Recovery Team arrived at the site earlier this week. On Wednesday, divers were able to reach the plane wreckage.

It went down in the lake nearly 60 years ago, killing the pilot and his passenger, who was a conservation officer.

Police say along with human remains, a number of personal items were also recovered.

They have been turned over to the coroner and will be returned to the families once the investigation is complete.
