The Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC) is once again working to help give Indigenous youth a variety of career opportunities.

The fifth annual Saskatoon Tribal Council Future Is Yours career fair is taking place at Prairieland Park in Saskatoon today.

More than 1000 people attended the expo in 2018 and STC Tribal Chief Mark Arcand says he is expecting an even greater turnout this year.

“There are over 90 exhibitors and around 1200 students registered,” said Arcand. “There is a wide variety of booths from industry to education.”

Retired NHL star Jordin Tootoo is this year’s keynote speaker.

Arcand said it is important for the Saskatoon Tribal Council to have Indigenous role models at the career fair.

Tootoo was the first Inuk player in the NHL.

“It’s an absolute honour to have him,” Arcand added. “Every kid should have the opportunity to see our people standing on a high profile stage saying this is how I got to where I am today.”

Tootoo is schedulued to speak at 12:30 p.m.

The expo includes numerous interactive exhibits from several industries.
