Georgina Jolibois says she will seek the NDP nomination for the federal constituency of Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River for the fall election.
The one-term MP says she has accomplished much over the past four years for her riding, but admits there is still work to do.
“I’m proud to say that we are a step closer in creating a new federal holiday that honours Survivors and the legacy of residential schools. With my colleague MP Romeo Saganash, we pushed hard for our Indigenous languages to be recognized and used in Ottawa,” said Jolibois. “There is so much work that needs to be done throughout Desnethé-Missinippi-Churchill River riding. So, therefore I’m seeking re-election.”
Jolibois took a swipe at the Liberal government, questioning the commitment to reconciliation given the mistreatment of former Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould.
“That is not reconciliation and that is not showing support to Indigenous communities, especially of critical issues such as reconciliation,” Jolibois explained.
She says in the House of Commons she has advocated for infrastructure projects like all-weather roads, housing and health services for remote communities.
The Conservatives have nominated a candidate, while the Liberals are yet to so.
