The RCMP says it did not follow proper protocol regarding complaints of a trespasser on the Ochapowace First Nation last week.
The First Nation says a farmer, who had been evicted for non-payment of rent, was seen on the reserve and approached by staff for trespassing.
When they approached his vehicle, they saw an exposed gun, fled and contacted Esterhazy RCMP.
However, Ochapowace says a number of calls to police were never followed up on.
In a statement, the RCMP says “not all of our investigational steps were followed.”
Mounties also say they will be providing guidance to all officers to prevent similar incidents happening in the future.
The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations plans to hold a press conference to address the issue in Saskatoon on Thursday.
