The Opposition New Democrats are calling on the government to release the interim inspection report into the northern Village of Pinehouse.

“We think people need to know what was in that interim report,” said NDP critic David Forbes.

The Ministry of Government Relations expanded the scope in its investigation of that community by appointing a supervisor to oversee the operations and conduct a financial audit, based on information contained in the report received by the Ministry last month.

“Probably what speaks most to what we’re concerned about is just kind of operations of the municipality. We’ve appointed a supervisor to be in the community and have given them a mandate of up to this time next year, and hoping the supervisor is able to provide some guidance and help the community,” Government Relations Minister Warren Kaeding said.

Last December, Kaeding ordered an independent investigation into Pinehouse.

Concerns were raised to then Government Relations Minister Donna Harpauer in 2016 regarding reluctance with Pinehouse to comply with processing freedom of information requests.

“Why after two and a half years, her and her staff sat on this, particularly when she seems to know the people at Pinehouse and the Village Council some of them very well. Why the delay,” asked Forbes?

While the government is committing to releasing the interim report into Pinehouse, that will be done once the current investigation is complete.
