The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations spring legislative assembly officially kicked off in Meadow Lake Wednesday morning.
Indigenous elected officials from all over the province are scheduled to discuss such issues as treaty governance, health and social development and gaming over the next two days.
Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, Saskatchewan NDP Leader Ryan Meili, Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett and Indigenous Services Minister Seamus O’Regan are also scheduled to address the assembly.
Retiring Saskatchewan Judge Gerald Morin and Meadow Lake Tribal Council Elder Frank Merasty will be honoured.
The assembly is taking place on the Flying Dust First Nation reserve.
It wraps up Thursday.
