Several La Ronge hockey players have returned to northern Saskatchewan following a golden performance in California.
Alex Bell, Cobe Delaney, Brandt Fiske and Chase Vancoughnett-Lafleur played for the Battle River Hawks, who captured first place at a recent tournament in Los Angeles.
“It was an amazing experience,” said Bell, who is a goalie. “Being from northern Saskatchewan, you don’t get to get out of the province that often. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I’m glad I was able to go.”
Bell says the team was made up of players in the midget AAA and midget AA ranks. He adds that the competition level was not on par with what they are used to in Saskatchewan.
“We ended up winning the tournament pretty easily,” said Bell. “There were a couple of really skilled players there, but the overall team play of the other teams was not quite up to Saskatchewan’s level.”
Meantime, Bell was named the most valuable goalie at the tournament.
