Kelly Bitternose Sr. and Kelly Bitternose Jr. obviously have a lot in common, but one thing they love is the sport of golf.
The father-son golfing duo from Saskatoon recently placed third at the First Nations Cup in Cold Lake, AB.
“It was a very good experience,” said Bitternose Sr. “Basically, we use the Sask. individual events that we play in kind of as a warmup for that one because you are playing for your own community.”
Kelly Bitternose Sr. is 56, while his son is 30-years-old now. They have been golfing together in events for around 10 years.
“It’s definitely fun,” said Bitternose Jr. “Having him (his dad) there, it helps too. It helps keep my mind centered, kind of like a calming effect.”

The duo certainly practices a lot. Bitternose Sr. says they go to the links every Saturday morning.
“I try to beat him because he’s a little better than me now, he always hits it a little further,” said Bitternose Sr. “I always tell him, ‘It doesn’t matter at the end of the hole, if I got a four and you got a four – it doesn’t matter how far you hit it.’ ”
Kelly Bitternose Sr. is heading to the Senior First Nations Cup next week in Alberta.
Meantime, the golfing tandem is looking at heading to Oregon soon to play in a tournament.
