Team Woodland’s golf team is bringing home three medals from the 2019 Tony Cote First Nations Summer Games on the Flying Dust First Nation.
Mya Whitecap and Jennifer Ratt had a golden performance in the U13/U15 female division. In the U17/U19 female category, Tori McDonald earned a bronze medal.
Meantime, Chad Roberts and Dade Bernatchez took silver in the U13/U15 male event. The duo only finished two shots back of BATC’s Keston Gerard and Lebron Thunderchild.
“I’m really proud of Chad and I,” said Bernatchez. “It was a really awesome course at Flying Dust – Meadow Lake. It was really tough, like the greens – they were pretty fast.”
What made the performance of Roberts and Bernatchez even more impressive is the fact they were competing against much older golfers. Bernatchez is only 12, while Roberts is 10.
“It was really fun,” said Roberts. “I think we did pretty good competing against 15 and 13-year-olds.”
Meantime, the closing ceremonies at the games are scheduled for today (Thursday), with the final events coming to a close Friday.
