The high school football season is fast approaching and the La Ronge Churchill Chargers are getting set for another year.
The Chargers started their fall camp on Thursday afternoon. Head Coach Gabe Andrews says there are expecting around 35-40 players to take part.
Andrews says they have a solid group of Grade 12 students returning for the upcoming campaign.
“We’ve got guys like Timber McKay, Eddie Halkett, Christopher Preston and Owen Bird to name a few, I’m sure I’m forgetting a few others, but those will be our key guys,” said Andrews. “Our offensive line should look really good this year, with some of our big boys in Grade 12 coming back.”
Despite several close games, the Chargers posted an 0-6 record in 2018.
“We want to improve upon last season and if we get some wins along the way, that’s great,” said Andrews. “Just continuing to stay competitive and continuing to see these guys do well in the classroom – and showing commitment to the team and finishing off the season is always a win in my books.”
The Chargers are slated to start the regular season Sept. 6 in Nipawin.
