The La Ronge Ice Wolves kicked off their hockey school on Monday morning at the Mel Hegland Uniplex.
Last week, the Ice Wolves had to halt registrations due the fact they had reached capacity. Ninety-five athletes signed up this year.
“I think anytime you come to a new city and you get the response like that, I think it’s absolutely fantastic for Gaelan (Patterson) and I, the kids that are coming into work and the organization, minor sports,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski. “I think it shows what we are trying to do here and that’s what we want to build is the community with the kids.”
The hockey school will finish up on Thursday.
Meantime, the Ice Wolves are slated to open training camp on Thursday evening at the JRMCC with registration and fitness testing.
The first on-ice sessions begin at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Mel Hegland Uniplex. Training camp is open to the public. Camp is slated to come to a close on Sunday with the annual intrasquad game.
Following training camp, the Ice Wolves will open the pre-season Sept. 5 on the road in Saskatoon versus the Kindersley Klippers.
