A long-term northern Saskatchewan educator is the newest CEO at Northlands College in La Ronge.
Guy Penney was appointed to the position earlier this week.
He says he came out to this part of the province, as a teacher from Newfoundland, almost 27 years ago and just never left.
“It’s a very seamless transition for me because I grew up in a very small fishing village and living off the land and the water,” he says. “When I moved here, it is very similar – living off the land and water and so forth. People were fantastic and I said to myself, ‘Hey, this is like coming home.’”
Penney starts his new job as the academic year gets underway and he says one of his first priorities will be to travel to the various northern communities Northlands serves and touch base.
“Basically, once the dust settles on startup and we’re securely into programming and so forth again, my first goal is to get out into the communities in northern Saskatchewan as much as I can.”
Northlands College’s newest CEO started his educational career as a teacher in La Loche.
He has been with the college for the past six years serving as director of academic programming and most recently vice-president, academic.
Penney replaces outgoing CEO Toby Greschner who stepped down from the position earlier this year.
