The hockey season is almost upon us and the La Ronge Ice Wolves are slated to open training camp on Thursday evening with fitness testing and registration at the JRMCC.
The Ice Wolves are expecting around 80 players to take part in camp this year.
“We got the kids that made the jump from spring camp as well, give them a second look and see how their summer has been,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski.
“Obviously, the recruiting part of the new kids that the scouts and Gaelan (Patterson) and myself have gone out there and scouted to see what kind of chemistry, the character, the skill, the grease, the grit, the goal scoring, the passers, you know, we got to put that all together.”
The first on-ice sessions begin on Friday morning at the Mel Hegland Uniplex. It’s the first training camp for new Head Coach Kevin Kaminski, but the second one for Associate Coach Gaelan Patterson, who spent last year with the Wolves as an assistant coach.
“I think it’s going to be a good training camp, I think all of the guys are going to come in in shape and the competition level is going to be high,” said Patterson. “I think we did a lot of recruiting and I know what’s coming in this year. I’m really happy about it and really excited to see the guys.”
Following training camp, the Ice Wolves will start the pre-season Sept. 5 in Saskatoon when they meet the Kindersley Klippers.
