The La Ronge Ice Wolves wrapped up a home-and-home series with the Hawks on Saturday in Nipawin with a 3-2 loss.
The Hawks got the first goal on the power play when Max Johnson sent a harmless looking shot on net that beat Liam McGarva 19:19 into the first stanza. The Ice Wolves tied things up at one with four seconds remaining in the frame when Daylon Mannon fed Aaron Greyeyes, who tickled the twine for his second of the campaign.
Nipawin took a 2-1 lead 7:59 into the second on the man advantage after Eric Sorensen hammered the puck home from the right point.
The Hawks took a two-goal advantage 6:33 into the third on the power play when Brodie Girod sent a shot on net that appeared to hit the post and trickle past Liam McGarva. The Ice Wolves made things interesting 8:06 into the third after a Samson Mouland goal, but that is as close as La Ronge would get. Mouland blasted the puck home from the middle of the blue line for his first of the season.
With the loss, the Ice Wolves slipped to 0-5 on the season. They will look to rebound on Sunday at the SJHL Showcase in Warman against the Kindersley Klippers.
You can catch Sunday’s game on MBC Network Radio with Braden Malsbury, the pre-game show begins at 3:45 p.m.
