Indigenous enrolment is up at the University of Saskatchewan.
Documents released by the university show an increase of 6.1 per cent in Indigenous enrolment for the fall semester when compared to the same period last year.
Just under 2,800 First Nations, Métis and Inuit students are registered for both undergraduate and graduate classes this September.
University records show Indigenous enrolment has been rising steadily since 2015 with an increase of a little over 36 per cent.
Overall, enrolment at the university also increased this fall by 1.6 per cent compared to 2018 for a total of just below 21,500 students.
Self-declared Indigenous students comprise roughly 13 per cent of the total U of S student population.
Of this number, 58 per cent are First Nations, 40 per cent Métis and one per cent Inuit.
