Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River MP elect says he is overwhelmed and humbled by his victory in Monday’s election.
Gary Vidal took nearly 42 percent of the vote.
“We tried to keep our message really positive. I think we never once got into anything personal. We tried to present a positive vision. I tried to run on my record of building positive relations with people in being credible and honest with people. I hope that paid off last night,” Vidal said.
Vital defeated incumbent NDP Georgina Jolibois by approximately 3300 votes.
Liberal Tammy Cook-Searson finished in third place with nearly 6900 votes or 26.6 percent.
“We did the best we could and we worked hard. Obviously it wasn’t the result we wanted, but we’re still grateful for the opportunity to run in this campaign,” said Cook-Searson.
Vital said he would try to build new relationships with northern residents and leaders, wanting to focus on representing the constituency.
A request for comment from Jolibois was not returned.
