The 2019 First Nations Language Keepers Gathering kicked off Wednesday morning in Saskatoon.
The annual event is put on by the Saskatchewan Indigenous Cultural Centre.
Keynote speakers Wednesday morning included Simon Bird who spoke on Cree education programs and Assembly of First Nations Chief Perry Bellegarde who gave a presentation on the federal government’s Indigenous Languages Act.
The gathering brings in academics, elders and knowledge keepers from all over North America to discuss ways of preserving and promoting Indigenous languages and cultures.
MBC Radio is providing on-site coverage at Prairieland Park with our Cree broadcaster Abel Charles.
