Touchwood Agency Tribal Council (TATC) and Carlton Trail College have agreed to work together to improve education and job opportunities for Indigenous people.
Touchwood Agency Tribal Council’s Labour Force Development Program will be operating out of Carlton Trail College’s Four Winds Learning Centre in Punnichy as part of the partnership.
The change will go into effect this fall.
“The Four Winds Learning Centre is a welcoming and culturally-sensitive space,” Labour Force Development client case worker D’nita Kahnapace-Bird said. “We’re pleased to be located with Carlton Trail College as we inspire and support our clients.”
One of the main goals of the Labour Force Development Program is to help Indigenous people enter the workforce.
“It was a natural fit,” Andrew Burgess, vice-president of finance for Carlton Trail College said. “As the College connects learners to further education and training, we wanted to support TATC’s ability to focus on skills development for Indigenous residents in the area. Sharing a location helps both of our organizations do just that.”
The TATC assists in providing employment opportunities for Indigenous residents of the Day Star, George Gordon, Kawacatoose and Muskowekwan First Nations and surrounding communities.
