The Métis Nation-Saskatchewan has announced a new partnership with Canadian Geographic magazine to preserve and promote the Michif language.
The Future of Michif Program will include a speakers’ bureau to promote the Michif language, an online conversation forum on the MN-S website and a youth language camp at this year’s Back to Batoche Days festival.
Canadian Geographic will also have a feature story on the Michif language in an upcoming publication along with an associated poster map.
It is estimated that there are as few as 640 Michif speakers in Canada.
The announcement was made on Wednesday morning in Saskatoon.
