The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is calling on Premier Scott Moe to close Saskatchewan’s borders as a way of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a press release issued over weekend, FSIN Chief Bobby Cameron says Saskatchewan First Nations are already closing their borders, limiting traffic in and out of communities, and the province should do the same.
Cameron says Saskatchewan simply can’t risk people from other provinces, who may be infected with COVID-19, carrying the virus into this jurisdiction.
He says only Saskatchewan residents returning from other parts of the country and essential services and suppliers should be let in.
On Friday, the Canada – U.S. border was closed to all non-essential travel.
