Dale Grayston is the new head coach of the Battlefords Stars midget AAA team.
Grayston was the longtime bench boss of the Beardy’s Blackhawks and spent 23 years as the club’s head coach.
Grayston was left without a coaching position after the Beardy’s Blackhawks ceased operations following restructuring in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. Grayston says he knew he wanted to get right back into coaching.
“I’m a lifelong coach,” said Grayston. “I was in Beardy’s 25 years and the head coach for 23. I just can’t imagine myself doing much else.”
Grayston says he was fortunate to coach a handful of players who went on to have success at various levels of hockey.
“I was so lucky to get a chance to coach just a lot of great young guys,” said Grayston. “Dwight King went on to win a couple of Stanley Cups. Brennan Bosch was our captain, then he went on to be Medicine Hat’s captain and then he went on to be the University of Saskatchewan’s captain.”
Grayston guided the Blachawks to a league championship in 2001.
