The Northern Village of La Loche  and the Clearwater River Dene Nation are attempting to return to a “new normal” after reporting no new COVID-19 cases and seeing all active cases recover.

The Emergency Operations Centre is closing in that community and it will be returning the Dene High School back to the Northern Lights School Division so that preparations can be made for the upcoming school year.

Supplies such as masks, gloves and sanitizer can be found at the old Friendship Centre.

The isolation camp too will be dismantled over the next week as the last person has recovered and moved out. Yet officials said the camp can be re-established if new cases arrive.

In a post on Facebook, La Loche Mayor and Council reported no active cases Wednesday, but cautioned that citizens need to be vigilant in hand washing, sanitization, wearing masks out in public and maintaining physical distancing to help prevent the possible spread.

Clearwater River Dene First Nation Chief Teddy Clark praised his community too had zero active cases, but that people continue to take safety precautions.

Health officials are expected in the coming days to issue guidelines on the resumption of visits at the long-term care facility.
