After 18 years at the helm, Geordy McCaffrey is stepping down as CEO of the Gabriel Dumont Institute.
A press release says his contract has been extended until June 2021 as GDI conducts a search for a new CEO.
McCaffrey is credited with revenue and program growth, quadrupling student enrolment, establishing GDI Training and Employment and playing an instrumental role in developing the Northern Saskatchewan Indigenous Teacher Education Program in La Ronge in 2019.
Under McCaffrey’s tenure, GDI also moved to its new building in Saskatoon which includes a Métis museum and art gallery.
The Métis educational institution has a full-time staff of 200 at 20 different locations across the province.
