Access Communications internet subscribers in La Ronge and Air Ronge received significant upgrades to their service this week.
The company announced two new plans Thursday with internet speeds of up to 50 megabits per second download and five megabits per second upload.
Company spokesperson Fran Moran said the COVID-19 pandemic has been another example of why faster internet service is needed in the region.
“With the COVID-19 pandemic hitting, it certainly taught us quite a bit,” he said. “One of the lessons has been the importance of fast, reliable network and how much of a necessity high quality internet service is in today’s world.”
Moran pointed to people needing to work from home and students having to learn online as some of the reasons for the importance of high-speed internet.
He added the company knew it needed to upgrade its service after hearing community members’ complaints.
“We heard La Ronge and Air Ronge loud and clear—internet needed to be better and we’re unbelievably excited to be able to deliver that today.”
And according to Moran, this won’t be the last upgrade of the summer.
“In the coming weeks, Access is going to be launching even faster speeds in La Ronge,” he said. “We’re going to be launching speeds of over 300 megabits per second which is significantly faster than even what we’re offering today.”
Moran said community members who purchased the company’s Hyperspeed 15 plan will be instantly upgraded to the new Hyperspeed 25 at no extra charge.
In addition to upgrades in the La Ronge region, Access is also launching faster internet service in over 67 communities across the province.
