The La Ronge Ice Wolves were busy in June with the SJHL Bantam Draft.
With the 56th overall selection in the fifth round, the La Ronge Ice Wolves selected defenceman Blake Ekren-Bratton.
The Porcupine Plain, SK product had 37 points in 27 games this past season with the North East Wolfpack U15 AA team. He also added 107 penalty minutes.
“I would describe myself as an aggressive two-way defenceman,” said Ekren-Bratton. “I like to rush the puck when I have the time, but I can also tell myself when I need to stay back in case of a turnover. I really like to contribute offensively for my team.”
He has committed to play with Moose Jaw this coming season in the U18 AAA ranks.
“I wanted to go to Moose Jaw, Swift Current or Regina because they are all top programs in the midget AAA hockey league,” said Ekren-Bratton. “Regina was getting kind of full and I had offers from Swift Current and Moose Jaw.”
Ekren-Bratton was also taken in the third round by the Medicine Hat Tigers in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
The Ice Wolves picked four forwards and three defencemen during this year’s draft.
