Voting will look different on the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation.

Elections officials said the presence of COVID-19 makes in-person voting unsafe.

“Chief Peter Beatty and Council, working with public health officials and Saskatchewan’s Chief Electoral Officer, have determined that in-person advance and election day polls cannot be held safely in Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation Communities,” said a notice from Elections Saskatchewan.

Residents of the First Nation wishing to vote in the October 26, election are asked to call Elections Saskatchewan at 1-866-351-0040 and apply for an “Extraordinary Voting” ballot kit by end of day Tuesday. “Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, this will be your only opportunity to get a ballot.”

Chief and Council of the Red Earth Cree Nation have determined that in-person advanced election day polls cannot be done safely.

Alternative voting will take place at Red Earth Cree Nation Community at Shoal Lake at the Wacihk Educational Complex.

Despite having COVID-19, in-person voting is deemed safe on the Lac La Ronge Indian Band.
