The Cumberland House Cree Nation is in lockdown, as that community reports 28 active COVID-19 cases.
Chief and Council express concern about possible community transmission as some people are not following isolation orders.
“Currently there are ongoing cases on the Cumberland House Cree Nation with little progress towards an end,” states a letter from Chief and Council.
“Positive cases are not following their isolation orders.”
Leadership is asking residents to stay in their homes for the 14-day “circuit break” short term lockdown, where walking around and traditional hunting are prohibited.
The First Nation is looking to limit human contact to help slow the spread of the virus. The lockdown will be lifted December 7.
