The La Ronge Ice Wolves ended the exhibition season on a sour note Saturday in Flin Flon when they dropped a 6-2 decision to the Bombers.

It was a rough start to the game for La Ronge as the Ice Wolves were down 5-0 before the contest was 13 minutes old.

“There’s no excuse here tonight, we came out flat and we had way too many passengers tonight — not enough gumption, not enough passion, not enough heart here tonight,” said Ice Wolves Head Coach and GM Kevin Kaminski. “We played timid and they got us back on our heels and we didn’t have any pushback, we started to a little bit in the second, a little bit in the third, but the game was over after the first.”

Aaron Greyeyes and Garret Hunter supplied the goals for La Ronge. Liam McGarva got the start in net, but he was replaced by Alex Bell after Flin Flon’s fourth marker of the evening.

“Alex played well for us here tonight,” said Kaminski. “I’m sure McGarva would like to have some back and even the sixth goal on Bell, hit him in the glove, popped out, rebound.”

Easton Haygarth scored twice for the Bombers, while Ashton Ferster, Brad Ginnell, Nathan Gagne and Rylan Thiessen rounded out the offence. Cal Schell made 33 saves for the victory.

La Ronge ended the pre-season schedule with a 2-1-1 record versus the Bombers.

The Ice Wolves are scheduled to start the season for real on Friday night at home when they host the Nipawin Hawks.
