Three members of the La Ronge Ice Wolves have been recognized by the SJHL for their impressive play.
Forward Brandon Della Paolera has been named the SJHL Rookie of the Week. In two games last week, the Osoyoos, B.C. product had four points. He scored the game-winning goal last Friday when the Ice Wolves beat the Melfort Mustangs 3-1.
“I’m happy to get it, the team is doing well, so it makes it a little bit easier,” said Della Paolera. “We’re just all coming together. Everyone in the room gets along, everyone has the same goal in mind — we all just want to win games.”
Tristan Lambert was the runner-up for the Defenceman of the Week prize. The Lethbridge, AB product had three points in two games last week. Through five games of the SJHL campaign, the 19-year-old has tallied four points.
“Personally, it feels pretty good,” said Lambert. “I think our team has had a lot of success and it’s given me a lot of opportunities. I think if we keep rolling the way we are, we’ll get a lot more as well.”
Netminder Xavier Cannon is 4-0 on the season and he recorded wins over the Nipawin Hawks and the Melfort Mustangs last week. His efforts didn’t go unnoticed and the Quesnel, B.C. product was the runner-up for the SJHL Goalie of the Week award.
Meantime, the Ice Wolves will look for their fifth straight win on Friday at home when they entertain the Battlefords North Stars. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at the Mel Hegland Uniplex. The Ice Wolves are 4-1 on the season and they will close out their weekend in North Battleford Saturday.
The Ice Wolves were supposed to take on the Flin Flon Bombers in a home-and-home series this weekend, but the Bombers have paused their season. Flin Flon can’t play at the Whitney Forum right now due to COVID-19 restrictions in Manitoba.
