Correctional Service Canada is reporting a large number of inmates at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary in Prince Albert have tested positive for COVID-19.
In a media release posted to the organization’s website, CSC said 24 inmates at the facility have tested positive for the virus. CSC said all inmates who tested positive are in the medium security unit.
So far no staff at the facility have tested positive for the virus.
CSC said the inmates who have tested positive are being isolated and said they are offering testing to both staff and inmates. Contact tracing is also underway.
Visits are continuing to be suspended and the prison says they are working to control the spread of the virus by practicing increased cleaning protocols and screening staff who come into the facility.
