The RCMP has ordered an external investigation into the circumstances into the death of a 44-year-old Cote First Nation in police custody.

Kamsack RCMP arrested the woman at a home on the First Nation Saturday afternoon without incident.

Yet on Sunday morning an ambulance was called to the detachment as the unidentified woman was found to be in medical distress.

She would later die in Kamsack hospital. An independent observer will be appointed.
