The Northern Inter Tribal Health Authority (NITHA) has declared another outbreak of COVID-19.
An outbreak has been declared for Kitsaki, La Ronge Reserve. NITHA explained in a statement posted online the declaration was made after an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. NITHA added there is evidence of community transmission.
NITHA said they are working with the Lac La Ronge Indian Band (LLRB) to contain the outbreak. Health officials are recommending people practice preventative measures which includes mask wearing, maintaining physical distancing and hand washing. It is also recommended people stay home when possible.
Anyone who is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms is being asked to self isolate and contact their local health clinic to arrange testing.
NITHA reports 241 active cases of COVID-19
NITHA said there were 241 active COVID-19 cases in their communities Wednesday. The far northeast had the highest number with 136, followed by the northwest with 63. The north central region reported 20 cases and the northeast currently has 19.
In the far north central region, the Athabasca Health Authority reported 3 active cases of the virus, an increase of two from yesterday. All three positive cases are linked to the community of Fond-du-Lac.
Overall NITHA said five people are in hospital and the number of recoveries currently sits at 1,119.
