With the Scattered Site Outreach program being sidelined for the next week due to COVID-19 related challenges, a La Ronge group is stepping up to help provide warm meals.
The Early Childhood Intervention Program is preparing pick-up or contactless meals.
“Why can’t we help out at least with a lunch? I mean it’s not much, but we have the capacity here,” said Program Director Daina Lapworth.
Some of the staff from the Scattered Site Outreach program are in isolation after being identified as a close contact with a person who possibly tested positive for COVID-19.
Approximately three employees are in mandatory isolation. “We try to have a chat and make sure that everybody’s doing okay. It takes a community, right? You and I could be out there just as easy, right? And it’s cold out,” said Lapworth. “Unfortunately, there’s no place for them to kind of go in and get warm.”
The hot meals are provided through donation and prepared by volunteers. Grocery gift card and cash are accepted forms of donation, however due to COVID-19 restrictions non-perishable food items are not permitted.
