Another local player from northern Saskatchewan has signed a letter of intent with the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
Defenceman Parker Layton from La Ronge has agreed to terms with the SJHL team.
“I can remember the first time I went out as the seventh man, it was just an amazing experience and just knowing one day that I was going to do whatever it takes to maybe crack a roster spot,” said Layton. “Just signing with the Wolves the other day, it was kind of emotional, it was something that I wanted for so long.”
The 17-year-old is a member of the Warman Wildcats in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA ranks. In seven games this season, Layton has tallied two points.
“I remember my first time going to camp (with the Ice Wolves), I was scared and intimidated,” said Layton. “This year, I felt like I was one of the guys. I felt like I could control the play, play at my pace, make the first good pass. I could really see the ice and not have to worry about some of the bigger guys coming at me because I feel my size is right there with everyone else.”
He has also suited up in the past for the Beardy’s Blackhawks.
Last week, the Ice Wolves also signed forward and Lac La Ronge Indian Band member Trever Sanderson to a letter of intent.
