The SJHL held its virtual showcase over the weekend.
The event saw players from the league inserted into the video game NHL 21. Games were then simulated and when the dust settled, the Global Ag Risk Solutions squad came out on top in the championship contest.
“It was kind of a distraction for some people that miss junior hockey,” said Benny Walchuk, who is the radio broadcaster for the Melville Millionaires and Yorkton Terriers. “It was nice to hear some of those names that we’ve been accustomed to the first part of this year and the last couple years in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. It was good exposure – lots of hits on social media.”
The winning team featured Narek Aleksanyan, Adam McNutt and Logan Holm of the La Ronge Ice Wolves.
The SJHL season was paused at the end of November after tighter COVID-19 restrictions were introduced by the provincial government.
