A young Métis man is set to open a beadwork store in Saskatoon.
18-year-old Dakota McLeod is expanding his His Bead Store, which is an online business started in 2017, creating and selling Métis beading supplies and craft kits to schools and community groups.
In 2019 he went virtual, launching an online store selling supplies.
Today, he is starting a storefront business located at 2210 Avenue C North, behind the Travelodge.
“A lot of my clients in Saskatoon were wanting a store and instead of curbside pickup or shipping to them while in Saskatoon,” McLeod said.
He has family connections to Buffalo Narrows and is looking to showcase the distinct Métis beadwork. His kits for sale come with all materials and a self-instruction brochure to get started.
His storefront location is large enough to accommodate beading workshops. “Once the pandemic is over, I have a nice classroom in the back of my store that will be hosting cultural beading classes and other cultural classes.”
The Grand opening will be from 10 AM to 5:30 PM and the store is open from Monday to Saturday.
